About this object
Two terracotta sphinxes, one representing Marie Antoinette, the other Marie Therese, Princess de Lamballe. The originals are in the gardens at Menars (Manars?) on the Loire. They are wearing the bodice of a dress, but the lion part of the body is covered in a drapery.
