About this object

A box made in imitation tortoiseshell. It consists of three tiers secured on the outside by two latches, one at the front and one at the back. When these are opened, the box can be opened to display three compartments to hold cosmetics or sewing implements. Scrolled hinges on the exterior sides allow the box to be open in a stepped fashion. The top is fitted with a curving handle.
