About this object
The entire outer surface of the dark green jade jar is carved in relief with various kinds of trees, set in rocky landscapes with pavilions, bridges, and people (Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period). On one side are three figures climbing a path toward a pavilion, the foremost figure carrying a branch with a blossom, the second one carries a vase, and the third a fruit. On the other side are two figures climbing towards another pavilion. There are three feet carved from the body of the jade. The brush jar was made into a humidor by the addition of a free standing cover in gold, enamel, sapphires and jade (Cartier). The umbrella like lower part has a Chinese pattern in red and white enamel set with sapphires. On top of this is another section with a many sided roof of white enamel. On the top is an elephant with a curled trunk carved from green jade.
