About this object

One of four prints by Goncharova and Larionov for Aleksei Kruchenykh's "Hermits and Hermitesses: Two Poems" ("Pustynniki; Pustynnitsa. Dve Poemy"), published in Moscow in 1913 by G.L. Kuz'min and S.D. Dolinskii. This lithograph depicts a figure of a neo-primitive, naked, bearded, long-haired man in profile riding a defecating cow and reading a book. This is set against a landscape of hills and trees. Signed H (Cyrillic letter “N” probably standing for Natalya) in the proper right corner. The image is an illustration to a futurist book by Alexei Kruchenykh Pystynniki i Pustynnitsa (Anachorits and an Anachoress),(Moscow, 1913). Marks: H – Cyrillic letter “N” in the proper right lower corner on the obverse (part of the print); ink inscription on the reverse along the bottom edge upside down relative to the direction of the drawing (the text is apparently unrelated to the subject matter depicted on the obverse): Мъшковский(?) прил.
