About this object

Christ stands naked in the River Jordan which flows through the center of a mountainous and verdant landscape. Above His head is the dove of the Holy Ghost and above that God Savaoth in a ring of puffy clouds. St. John the Baptist stands on the shore to Christ's right, dressed in animal skins covered by a green? hymation, a scroll clutched in his left hand while his right is placed on Christ's head. On the opposite bank three archangels bow down, their hands covered in reverence. In the upper left is the Temptation of Christ by Satan and in the upper right the Assembly of St. John the Baptist (John 3: 26). A shallow carved luzga separates the kovcheg from the off-white polia with its double red and yellow filenka.
