About this object
The fan is constructed of mother of pearl sticks and guards with an incised floral pattern. The body of the fan is silk to which a hand tinted lithograph has been applied. The print depicts a pastoral scene in the style of Boucher with a man playing a flute and a seated woman in a landscape with sheep. The outer edges of the scene are handpainted in watercolor and gold with scrolls, vines and flourishes.
