About this object

Long gray coat-style dress with large flame shaped cutouts backed with gray net. The bodice has a stand collar and closes at center front to create a small lapel. The long, tubular sleeves are closely fitted at the wrist by the use of a small metal zipper. The cap of the sleeve has gathers and four triangular fabric insets to increase volume and provide a decorative element. The bell shaped skirt is topstitched to the bodice at the natural waistline. The lower edge of the skirt is stiffened with a nylon horsehair band placed 4" from the hem. The bodice closes at center front with five covered buttons and vertical buttonholes. The closure continues across the left waist seam with seven metal snaps. The skirt closes at left side with a metal zipper. A flat taffeta belt is stiffened with machine stitching in a triangular pattern. The belt closes at center front with two metal clasps decorated with square-cut rhinestones. This dress would have been worn with an underdress that is no longer in the collection.
