About this object
Marjorie Merriweather Post wore this tailored wool, caramel-colored dress during her residency at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow from 1937-38. Her husband, Joseph Davies, was the U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union at that time. The garment has a Russian look, with a turned down, pointed collar; long, narrow sleeves; and a front placket decorated with eight dark brown braided cotton frogs. The dress is worn with a 2-inch belt that also has a decorative frog closure at center front. There are lined, inset pockets on each side of the dress.
This tailored dress in caramel colored wool was worn by Mrs. Post at the Russian Embassy. The garment has a small, turned down, pointed collar and long, narrow sleeves. It closes in center front with snaps on a center front under-placket, while the outside of the garment closes with 8 decorative dark brown braided cotton frogs. The dress is worn with a 2" belt with a decorative frog closure at center front. Lined, inset pockets are located on each side.
