About this object

One-piece reception gown in late Edwardian sheath style. A boned taffeta foundation supports the bodice of gray silk taffeta faille and vertically pleated black tulle. Three quarter length sleeves of black tulle are decorated with blue cotton floss woven through the tulle in a circular pattern. Bands of the embroidered tulle and gray silk taffeta faille are applied flat to trim the bodice, creating a suspended bolero effect. Bodice and sleeves are further embellished with pale blue cotton frogs with three hanging tassels. Black jet beading at neck sets off the high stand collar of cream colored lace. The gray skirt is overlaid with a shorter overskirt created from panels of black tulle edged with black jet beading. Center front and center back panels are embellished at lower edge with wide shaped appliques embroidered tulle. The gray underdress closes at center back with metal hooks and eyes. The overskirt closes along the left side of the center back panel with hooks and eye concealed beneath the jet beading.
