About this object

This long, burgandy velvet gown was probably worn for evening occassions at home. The closefitting neck closes at center front with a long metal zipper extending 41" from the base of the neck. The garment continues to the floor in an open slit. The neck edge and front seam are decorated with gold embroidery. Full length dolman sleeves are gathered at the cap and close tightly at the wrist with 4-1/2" metal zippers. The front of the garment is cut in two sets of narrow panels in a modified princess line. The back is similarly cut to the dropped waist seam where a full skirt is attached. The result is a narrow front silhouette with dramatic fullness at the back. The garment is unlined.
