About this object

A bed set consisting of a white linen monogrammed sheet and two American style pillow cases with a cream colored sheet cuff of Bruges/Vieux Flandre bobbin lace. The monogram is MPH and is executed in white satin stitch embroidery with areas of faggoting. Below the monogram and running along the sides is a design of three rows of faggoting. The top and bottom row are of faggotted squares and the center row is composed of three lines of faggoting overlain with angled satin stitched embroidered leaves evenly spaced. The top and sides of the sheet have a cream lace cuff of Bruges/"Vieux Flandre bobbin lace in bold flowers with needle ground and fillings. Vieux Flandre is a term given to lace from Belgium in the 19th century. It is a mix of bobbin and needle lace. The pillow cases have the same type lace, but it has a pinkish color to it. The lace is 2 1/2 inches deep and is on the top edge of the case only.
