About this object

A set of presentation or autograph quilts and shams. Often referred to as Baltimore album quilts. 45.665.1 is an ecru cotton appliqued quilt designed of six major panels. The panels make up the center of the quilt and are separated from each other at the top, bottom, and outer side by a light green calico band. The two top panels are of appliqued red and yellow grapes with green leaves in a wreath shape. The first of the next two panels is a wreath of pansies, tulips, and morning glories that has signed in the center of the wreath "Accept this from a friend sincere and may you hold it ever dear to place into a quilt for thee that you may sometimes think of me...Mrs ___". The panel next to this is an appliqued spray of flowers in blues, reds and yellows. Below this set of panels is a panel composed of a wreath of two large red flowers and a spray of cherries. Within the wreath is an appliqued bird eating a cherry. The panel next to this one is a wreath of strawberries. In the center of the wreath is stamped in black ink "J.B.Fenwick". Around this inscription are the words "Pensez, a', moi'. The sham for this quilt is 45.665.2 and is made up of two panels of quilted applique. One panel is a wreath of red flowers and leaves and the other is sprays of yellow, pink and red flowers. Within the center of the sprays of flowers is an inscription that is washed out. The back of the sham is linen and has an opening with 19 buttons along the edge for the pillow insertion. 45.665.3 is an appliqued quilt of similar colors made up of six panels. The top two panels are made up of one panel that has pansies, tulips and morning glories forming a wreath. In the center of the wreath is written in black ink "For you this wreath I've tailored, composed of flowers gay, that you would sometimes think of me, when I am far away "Fannie K. Tar----". Along side this panel is one of three dimensional flowers in red, yellow, and beige.
