About this object

This is a five piece white linen bedding set of 4 pillow cases and one sheet. The set has been left folded as Mrs. Post had her linens stored as an example for future lectures or study groups. The design of the set is the same on all of the pieces except for the Davies crest. On the smallest pillow case or bolster it is designed in white work embroidery. The other pieces have the Davies crest in applique and white work embroidery. Below the crest on both sides is applique flower scrolls with insets of five hole mesh and accents of drawnwork. There are also accents of white work embroidery flowers scattered evenly around the applique. The edging of all the pieces is Binche bobbin lace. The lace edging on the smallest pillow case is two inches. The other pillow cases have an edging of three inches and the sheet has a lace edging of six inches. The design of the lace is of roses and areas of partridge eye or snow flake fillings, which is typical for Binche bobbin lace. There are four buttons spaced evenly across the back of the pillow case openings.
