About this object

The top and bottom of the round shell box is lined with copper. On the lid is a repoussé medallion made in gilt metal which depicts a military scene. It shows Napoleon mounting his horse in the center, and a surgeon to the left wrapping a bandage around Napoleon's right ankle. The soldiers, horses, and a view of the city of Ratisbonne in the background complete the composition.
