About this object
The box is irregular in shape but more or less rectangular. It is decorated with inset pieces of engraved mother of pearl, engraved gold and pique work. On the cover is a scene of Vulcan and his assistants making a suit of armor with a cupid flying down from the left and Minerva seated on the clouds. At right rear is another scene of artisans. The figures and architecture are made in mother of pearl, while the drapery, armor, trees and the figure of Minerva are in gold. The foliage is in pique work. The border of scrolls, and leaves are in mother of pearl and gilt metal. The sides have a similar decoration to the border but are larger in scale.
