On cover is lacquered the central vignette from Shishkin's 1889 painting "Morning in a Pine Forest" (Tretyakov Gallery) in which a mother bear watches her three cubs playing around fallen tree trunk. The remainder of the box exterior is lacquered black; the interior is red.
