About this object
The flooring represents a Russian imperial double-headed eagle with an eight sided panel in parquetry. It wears the Cleft crown of the Romanovs. On the breast is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew and St. George and the Dragon. On the raised outspread wings six shields of coats of arms: on the left, basilisk-Kazan, eagle with one head-Chernogov, double headed eagle with cross on shield-Novgorod-Volinski, on right, crown and sword-Astrakhan, cornucopia and caduceus-Kharkov, crossed anchors and sceptre-St. Petersburg. Held by talons of eagle, the orb and sceptre of the imperial regalia, the latter topped by the Orlov diamond, here in mother of pearl.
