About this object

A carved box made from a coquilla nut. It is shaped like a short man, who is hunched up. He stands on two small feet, but the carving is mostly his face and head. He has large bushy eyebrows, a flat nose, and a downturned mouth. His eyes are made from glass, and the buttons on his garment are made from ivory. His coat has a fringed edge, and his shirt and trousers are decorated with vertical stripes. His feet are made from a black wood. The cover opens at the back.
