The scene is quite stylized as in many straw pictures. The design is made from pieces of straw glued to a black cloth. At the right is the sea which is depicted with horizontal dotted lines. On the sea rests a ship which is reflected in the water. In the sky is a sun or a full moon. Several birds fly across the sky to the left. At the left is a two-story house and two fir trees. The frame is black wood with a beaded border and an inner gold frame.
