About this object

The boxes are made from varicolored woods arranged in patterns that recall parquet floors. There are applied designs made in ormolu. On the top are two hinged lids that lift up. These have applied ormolu designs in the center in the manner of the early part of the century. It shows two women with a basket of fruit. The borders are clusters of leaves and fruit with bowknots. The front and back have an ormolu lions head in relief and borders in ormolu. They rest on four lions paw feet. Inside are two sections that lift out with an ormolu handle. Each has six sections with chips colored white, red, black and yellow in dyed mother of pearl.
