About this object

The table is supported on four cabriole legs with a low shelf between them. The front has a marquetry scene extending over three drawers, representing a landscape with buildings and a river running under a bridge. The top has a marquetry panel with a still life of scattered objects including an inkwell, pens, drawing instruments, penknife, a sealed letter, crayon, playing cards, two books and a rose. The sides, back and shelf below are covered with trompe l'oeil three-dimensional pegged fretwork. The four corners bear long, gilt metal rococo mounts. The legs end with rococo sabots and casters.
