On view in: Marjorie Post's Bedroom

About this object

The table is rectangular and stands on faceted legs tapering downwards. The top is divided into three framed panels, the central one with a fretwork of diamond shapes each containing a small flower with leaves, the side ones with similar fretwork each containing a stylized flower head. A brass railing with an openwork swastica design goes around three sides of the top. At the front is a single drawer mounted with an ormolu frieze of acanthus leaves and shells. This is flanked by two small panels of marquetry with fretwork and small quatrefoils marking each intersection. The same decoration appears on the sides and back. Underneath is a shelf supported by curved gilt bronze bars decorated at the top with marquetry fretwork sorrounded by a brass railing. The tapering legs are eight sided and have ormolu capitals at the top and tall sabots at the bottom. A vitrine has been placed on top to hold the bloodstone collection.
