About this object

The table is rectangular and stands on four straight legs. The top is covered with a slab of variegated marble and has a low brass railing in openwork. At the top of the front is a frieze drawer fitted inside with a writing slide and compartments and faced with a marquetry panel with stylized waves and flower motifs. Below this is a tambour decorated with a cluster of musical instruments and a piece of sheet music including the word "cantata", all within two sprays of flowers. Behind the tambour are three drawers faced in light wood. Each side has a vase with floral sprays and the back has just a spray. At the top of the sides and back are swags of leaves in marquetry, each flanked at the corners by rectangular leaf clusters in gilt metal. All the panels, including those on the rectangular tapered legs are framed by a narrow brass band with beading. The feet end with shaped brass sabots.
