LADY'S WRITING TABLE

Creator(s): Guillaume Kemp (Cabinet Maker)

On view in: Marjorie Post's Bedroom

About this object

The table is rectangular and stands on four straight legs. The top is covered with marquetry in a criss cross pattern with a small quatrefoil in at each intersection, and a larger one in each space between the crossing bands. This pattern is repeated in a less elaborate manner on the front, across the three drawers, and on the sides, with the bands rendered in trompe l'oeil. The four corners are covered with trompe l'oeil fluting. The straight legs taper down to plain sabots. The top is edged on three sides with a brass raliling in openwork. The top drawer has three small compartments inside.
