About this object

The top is rectangular with the two forward corners cut off. Both the top and a lower shelf are covered with slabs of white marble, each edged by a brass railing composed of alternate large and small circles in openwork. A shallow drawer has a superimposed panel with a crescent shape at the lower edge. The drawer is faced with gilt bronze ornamentation consisting of a central acanthus plant flanked by sprays of oak leaves with acorns, all against a green lacquer ground, and bordered with an egg and dart motif. The sides of the table have applied oak sprays tied in the center with a ribbon and against the same green lacquer ground. The channeled, tapering legs have gilt bronze capitals and tall round sabots in the shape of acanthus leaves, the channeling being filled with brass strips.
