About this object

The top is in marquetry, divided in three sections. The center has a bouquet of flowers in a pitcher, the flanking sections have an overall pattern of cubes. The front is split crosswise with two drawers. The front is covered with rectagular panels of marquetry framed by narrow checkered bands. The center has a cartouche with tall sprays of flowers in an urn topped by a seven-pointed crown, below the urn are several leafy sprays amid which are a caduceus, a trumpet and a halberd, at the bottom hangs a cross. The side panels are each divided into two sections, the lower with a tall flower stalk in an urn, the sides of the chest are covered with cube marquetry like the one on the top. The drawer pulls are mounted with laurel wreaths centerd by rosettes, the plain crescent shaped apron bears an ornament with an urn, a swag, and leaf spray. The corner posts are canted and have trompe-l'oeil fluting in marquetry, topped by a classicizing mount in the shape of a pilaster with a swag, three dentils and a chute of leaves at the bottom. The cabriole legs terminated in sabots with scrollsside ones with a lozenge repeat pattern. The front has two drawers about equal in size. A large marquetry design inthe center covers both drawers and consists of a floral design above which is a crown (Count) and below a cross. The side panels on the front have below an urn with a tall flower. The two sides of the commode have repeat lozenge design loke on the top of the table. The handles and keyplates to the drawers and the sabots are in ormolu.
