About this object

The cover of the chesse dish is cylindrical and fits into a groove in the bottom plate. The handle is in the form of an acorn. The background of the dish is slate blue with white designs on it in low relief. On the top of the lid is a design of ferns alternating with lilies of the valley that surrounds the handle. There are also five ventilation holes. Around the straight sides are figures of women interspersed with trees in a classical frieze. One stands leaning on a column with a dog at her feet. Another waves a large fan. A third stands near an urn on the ground. There is a border at the base of the cover and the same around the dish of oak leaves and acorns.
