About this object
Plain white dinner plate with a narrow gold band at rim and on cavetto. A stylized floral ornament in gold in the center. The main decoration is the shield of the Gothic Cottage at the top of the plate with a sword piercing a wreath of white roses on a blue ground. On the gold band forming the outer edge of the shield is the inscription in Cyrillic: "For Faith, Tsar, and Fatherland."

Written in black on gold band forming the outer edge of the shield Translation: "For Faith, Tsar and Fatherland" MARK; DATE [Cipher of Nicholas II beneath Imperial crown] 1901 Stamped in green underglaze on underside of plate near foot. MARK [Small green dot inside foot, about 3 inches from mark.] On underside of plate, inside foot. This was probably a painter's mark for keeping track of piecework.
