About this object

This glazed biscuit bust of Empress Catherine II is after a late 1700s biscuit model by Jacques-Dominique Rachette (1744-1809) based on a marble original by Fedot Ivanovich Shubin (1740-1805). She looks almost forward, only slightly to the left. Her hair is dressed high and with curls falling over each shoulder. She wears a tiara and a wreath of laurel in her hair. Only the upper part of her dress is represented. This bust is fixed to a circular base, which in turn rests on a truncated column. The column is in unglazed biscuit. About the base is a garland of oak leaves in gold. On the front of the column is a medallion with a frame of leaves and ribbons, in gold. In the center of this is a porcelain plaque in white with the monogram of the Empress in roses of natural colors.
