About this object

This vase is of the bandeau type, with elongated, urn-shaped body and long neck. The porcelain handles, affixed to the shoulders, take the form of scrolling branches and are gilded to imitate gilt bronze. Finely molded and gilded acanthus leaves ornament the base of the vase. On the back, an ornate wreath of leaves encircles a lyre, all rendered in gold on a dark blue ground. The vase is mounted on a gilt bronze plinth. The central part of the body has a large rectangular unidentified landscape. The landscape on the vase shows an Italianate scene with trees at the left, a ruined brick building at the right and a couple walking into a grove of trees in the middle distance. Made in several pieces, separate pedestal, foot, handles, etc.
