About this object
Vases were made in several pieces, as follows: 1. Rectangular base in porcelain of a turquoise color decorated on all four sides with clusters of flowers in gold with a simple ormolu band about the base and a more elaborate smaller ormolu rectangular base on top of the porcelain base. 2. A pedestal foot, in porcelain partly white, partly turquoise, decorated with garlands and flowers in gold. 3. Main body is urn-shaped, the lower part like a melon in white and gold, the upper part in turquoise with scrolls and garlands of flowers in gold. 4. Two scroll handles are in ormolu. 5. On top of the urn-shaped portion is an ormolu band with acanthus leaves. 6. Cover is in white and turquoise decorated in gold with a handle at the top in ormolu. Inside the cover of each vase is the cipher of Catherine II in underglaze blue.
