About this object

The shape of the beaker is reminiscent of Bohemian and Viennese pieces of the early nineteenth century. The bulging base is engraved with a star beneath. The rest of the beaker flares upward. There is a series of eighteen printies (depressions) decorating the exterior of the beaker. While they are made to resemble engraving through cased glass, they are in fact rough engravings cut into a red stain/enamel painted on each large printy. Decoration includes animals (swan, birds, a dog), butterflies, floral forms, lattice work, a cornucopia, a boat, a windmill, and a crossed hear and anchor. (A complete list appears in the paper file.) Between the red medallions are engraved bunches of grapes. Another series of printies decorates the base.
