About this object

Base is plain and yellowed. The foot is a different color from the bowl and is probably a later marriage. Broken and repaired stem is faceted. Bowl is engraved on one side with a bust of General A.V. (Aleksandr Vasil'evich) Suvorov (1729-6 May 1800) and sprays on either side. On other side under a coronet is engraved the name 'A.V. Suvorov' with laurel branches on either side. Engraved image is based on a pastel made by Saxon Court artist Johann Heinrich Schmidt in 1800 or one of several engravings after Schmidt. The first was completed by Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Florov (1788-1830) in 1812 and the second by N.I. Utkin in 1818.
