DECANTER

Creator(s): Unknown (Manufacturer)

On view in: Russian Porcelain Room

About this object

Green glass decanter has a glass stopper. There are gilded bands around the base, the body, the neck, the lip and the stopper. The gilding on the stopper is decorated with laurel leaves with a rosette on top. Gilding about the body is embellished with a rosette, classical forms, and lions. On the front the gold band forms the frame of a medallion enameled white and painted with the bust of the general Matvei Ivanovich Platov. The presence of striations and bubbles suggests that the decanter is hand-blown.
