About this object

Bowl is engraved with two medallions, one with the half length figure of a bishop saint, perhaps St. Nicholas, giving a blessing, the other with the mirror initials E.P., for Empress Elizabeth I (Elizaveta Petrovna), surmounted by the imperial crown. Between these are engraved sprays of leaves and flowers and below is a series of pointed arches. Baluster stem is faceted, while the round foot is plain. The stem is composed of three proper knops, the middle one being larger than those on above and below. Cover has band of leaves and flowers engraved about the edge.
