About this object

The seal is cut from a deep black stone with small white flecks. The shape is that of an urn with a flat top and ribbed sides. The top is cut as well as the bottom. The top has a curved edge and curves outwards with wide ribs. There is a division between the top and the center. The center is also ribbed with a flat area which is inscribed. The pedestal foot is plain and rests on the oval base.

INSCRIPTION: Kolyvianskiia Iashma 1866 go: [Inscribed on front, in Cyrillic gold script] Translation: Kolyvan Jasper 1866 INSCRIPTION: "Kakhanov" [In Cyrillic script on top of seal] COAT OF ARMS: (Coat of arms of the Kakhanov family with five medals) [Engraved on underside of seal] The coat of arms is surmounted by a ducal coronet with a plume of three ostrich feathers. Five medals hang from the bottom, including two with crossed swords, suggesting this the personal seal of a military officer.
