About this object

The candelsticks are composed like a pair of urns resting on a columnar pedestal which in turn rests on a rectangular plinth. The covers of the urns are reversable and thus become candelsticks. The plinth for the base is framed in ormolu with four feet in the same metal each decorated with an acanthus leaf also in ormolu. The channelled column rests on a wreath of laurel in ormolu and is draped with swags of roses in the same. The urns have bases with laurel leaves in ormolu. The handles and a band about the upper part of the urns are also in ormolu. The covers have caps in ormolu with leaves surmounted buy a pine cone.
