About this object

A large inkwell shaped like a fountain with people around it. On either side is a rectangular hinged lid which covers a round depression lined with glass. This was intended for ink. It has steps leading to a fountain which spills over a column. There are eight figures in the round dressed in classical drapery who surround the fountain where they are coming to drink.
