About this object
Round box is divided into two compartments, each with a lid, for two different kinds of snuff. On one lid, Monument to Peter the Great flanked by two towers is rendered in niello on a stippled gilt ground. On the other lid is a view of a town with a neo-classic building, possibly St. Petersburg's Stock Exchange, in niello on a stippled gilt ground. Geometric border design is niello. Around the side is a continuous niello border of wooden and stone houses, towers and fortress walls. On bottom ia a niello scene of a classical ruins, arch gate, and a tree on a gilt, stippled ground. Border is the same as on the top.
