About this object
The gilt bowl is set in a basket of leaves, flowers, circles, etc., all set with rose-cut diamonds, emeralds, etc. There are four enameled medallions, each surrounded by a circle of rose-cut diamonds. The medallions are painted in blue, white and purplish enamel with half-figures of 1. Christ blessing, 2. St. John the Baptist, 3. Christ with the crown of thorns, 4. the Mother of God. The central portion is a plain gilt baluster. The bell-shaped base has on the lower part an engraved and stippled leaf decoration surmounted by a continuous row of semi-circles set with rose-cut emeralds. Above is a single circle of rose-cut diamonds. Above this is a fretwork in rose-cut emeralds and diamonds matching the design on the cup. There are four medallions in the same colors of enamel and representing 1. Gethsemene, 2. the mocking of Christ, 3. the road to Calvary, 4. the Entombment.
