About this object
The interior has the double headed eagle in repoussé on an engraved ground (leaves and scroll). On the handle is the double headed eagle, also in relief appliqued. At the opposite tip is the double headed eagle a third time. Around the outside edge runs the inscription: "By the grace of God the Great Lord, Tsar and Grand Duke, Petr Alekseevich, Autocrat of All the Great, Small and White Russias, granted this kovsh to the Novgorodian tradesman Ivan Yaroslavl for his efforts and for the profit which he [made] in 1703 in his winter [mountain?] tavern, as against the year 1702. He made 327 rubles. For this service of his and for the profit the Grand Duke rewarded him."
