About this object
The ornament shows a rider on a horse who is identified as King Gustav II Adolph of Sweden. He is dressed in a seventeenth century costume and hat and holds a field marshall's baton in his right hand. He has a gun on heach hip and a swoard behind him. He turns to his left. He is riding on a rearing horse which has elaborate tack. The horse's two hind feet rest on simulated ground and part of a broken wheel. The oval base has a male protome on each end. On two sides are reliefs with scenes from the life of King Gustav. The base has four feet with devil's masks and wings.
