About this object
On the handle is an elaborate design centering an oval medallion with the monogram of the Empress Elizabeth I (Elizaveta Petrovna); above this is the Imperial crown. In the bottom of the bowl is the Imperial double headed eagle surmounted by the Imperial crown in repoussé, engraving and stippling. On the side of the bowl opposite the handle is again the double headed eagle and beneath it a cartouche with an engraved bust of the Empress Elizabeth in profile. Around the bowl are seven cartouches with inscriptions in Russian. "By God's grace we, Elizabeth the First, Empress and Autocrat of All Russia ..., awarded this kovsh to the starshina of the Don troops and of Zimova stanitsa, Hetman Andrei Krasny, which (was) cast for his faithful and many services, in Moscow March 25, 1751."
