About this object

The box is rectangular in shape with the corners cut off, so that it has an octagonal shape. On the cover in open work set with red, pink, green and yellow paste stones is a peacock with his tail spread behind him. The border has a row of blue paste stones around it. Around the lower edge of the cover is a vine scroll in openwork set with colored paste stones. All the sides are set with floral and leaf motifs in colored paste. It stands on four splay feet which are also are set with blue paste. The underside is engraved with a vase from which leaves and flowers grow. The inside of the cover is set with a mirror, and the rest is gilded.
