About this object

An oval shaped hinged box. On the cover is an oval medallion containing a crowned A with the Roman number I formerly attributed to Emperor Alexander I. This is in chased gold applied to the ground of dark blue enamel framed with chased gold leaves. Outside this in a cartouche are gold stars against a dark blue enamel checkerboard that appear also on the sides and bottom of the box. The shape of the box is bulbous and scalloped and the borders of top and bottom are filled with chased vine scrolls.
