About this object
The box is made in an unusual shape. It is composed of six pieces of irregularly shaped bloodstone mounted in a gold cage. The cover is ribbed, alternately raised and cut out. The ribs are outlined in gold, and chased with flowers on a matt gold ground. Quadrangular pieces of bloodstone are on the front and back which are framed in gold chased with shells and flowers on a matt gold ground. The borders and hinge are ribbed in gold and the thumbpiece is chased with scrolls.
