About this object

The box is made from six pieces of bloodstone mounted in gold. The bottom is plain except for a beveled edge. The four sides bulge on the upper portions so that the whole box has a sarcophagus shape. The cover is a plain piece of polished bloodstone. The bottom and side pieces are held together by ribbed bands of gold. The cover is mounted in a gold frame consisting of rococo scrolls, swags of roses and shells chased in gold.
