Museum Attendant

Title:                                         Museum Attendant


Employment Status:              Part-time Temporary - $14 per hour, Overtime Eligible. 

Time Commitment:

14 – 28 hours per week.  Total number of scheduled hours varies based on need.  Employee’s schedule will be a combination of weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays generally between the hours of 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. This is a seasonal position with an estimated duration of 10 – 12 weeks.


Primary Functions:

  • Greets and orients visitors on station in the Mansion.
  • Manages coat/bag check.
  • May acts as rover or sits a static post inside the Mansion or Satellite exhibit space (includes gardens).
  • May answer general questions about the Hillwood/exhibit for visitors.
  • Augments various Hillwood departments by insuring healthy and informative interaction with our collection and gardens.
  • Assures a positive, enjoyable visitor experience.


Key Job Elements:  

                      If assigned to Mansion Coat Check:

  • Welcomes and greets visitors and checks coats/bags
  • Provides information and directions to visitors
  • Relays any emergency information to Security for their response
  • Answers Hillwood-related and general questions


                      If assigned as Mansion Rover or Stationary Gallery Attendant:

  • Circulates throughout assigned area and/or sits a fixed post and avails oneself to visitor interaction.
  • Provides information and directions to visitors.
  • Relays any emergency information to Security for their response.
  • Informs appropriate department heads of visitor concerns.
  • Answers Hillwood-related and general questions.


                      If assigned to a Satellite Exhibit Space:

  • Welcomes and greets visitors.
  • Provides information and directions to visitors.
  • Relays any emergency information to Security for their response.
  • Answers Hillwood-related and general questions



  • Attends regular museum attendant continuing education sessions and any scheduled mandatory training sessions.
  • Participates in periodic reviews.
  • Honors the schedule commitment agreed upon prior to hire


Organizational Relationships:

  • Reports to their assigned shift leader
  • Interacts with staff and visitors.



  • College training in a field related to the arts or museum management.
  • Desire to learn and thrive in a robust customer service setting.
  • Fluency in foreign languages is considered an attribute.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to receive oral and written instructions in English and to communicate in English in person, over the telephone, over the radio, through email and other electronic means.   Employee is required to move about their work area, between buildings and the campus grounds, ascend and descend stairs; stand, and/or sit for extended periods of time.  The employee is occasionally required to lift, drag and/or move up to 15 pounds unassisted. The employee is required to visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess.
