Like many historic house and gardens, Filoli is expanding its self-perception to remain relevant for the future while honoring its past.
Created as a family home for entertaining, the 54,000-square-foot house and 16 acres of formal gardens have evolved over the 40 years open to the public to be a rich cultural center for the Bay Area community. ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Kara Newport (she/her) is the CEO of Filoli and has an extensive history in working with a variety of cultural organizations. Newport has been with Filoli for over three years and in that short time attendance has increased by an unprecedented 75% and revenue by over 30%. After completing her master’s degree (MPA), she was a senior development professional at Winterthur, The Philadelphia Zoo, The Franklin Institute and was also the Executive Director for Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden for 10 years. Newport has served on both local and national boards, including Treasurer of the American Public Gardens Association National Board.
