Horticulture How-To: The Fall Herb Harvest & What to Do with Your Bounty

As summer wanes, prepare and preserve your herb garden for a flavorful fall and winter.

Join Jessica Bonilla, director of horticulture, for this forty-five minute program hosted live via Zoom. This program includes a pre-recorded video tour of Hillwood’s herb garden and an illustrated presentation where you will learn how to:

  • Harvest, preserve, and dry herbs;
  • Use herbs in fragrant dishes, simple syrups, and vinegars; and
  • Create pleasing home scents such as modern sachets and potpourris.

Participants will have ample opportunities to ask questions. 


This virtual program is limited to 50 participants and is presented live via Zoom. The online "waiting room" opens at 1 p.m. and the workshop begins at 1:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to join with video; questions can be submitted via the chat feature. Please note that this workshop will be recorded.

Jessica Bonilla is the director of horticulture at Hillwood. She joined Hillwood as a gardener in 2009, grew into a head gardener position in 2014 and became director in July of 2020. She leads the staff responsible for garden upkeep, greenhouse production, orchid care and floral arrangements. With over twenty years of experience, she has worked in commercial landscaping, private estate gardening, and ran her own landscaping business. She has a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Contracting from Penn State.
